After everything we went through earlier in the year, I am
happy to report that Ken, Lisa, Jay and I were fortunate enough to find another
property in the area to purchase. It’s just over two acres with a house on it
and a mobile home which is rented and the tenants would like to stay for a few
more years.
This is fine with us as Ken and I have now sold our house and Ken
decided he wanted to try the RV lifestyle for a while. I was on board as I also
wondered what it would be like. A few years ago, a couple that we met briefly
through other friends, sold everything they owned and bought a rather large
fifth wheel and decided to travel all over North America. It made sense to me
for them to do that as it’s just the two of them and they really have no family
ties.
I ran into her in the dentist office not too long ago and she expressed
that they couldn’t be happier. “No lawns to cut, no house work to do and the
best part was no bills to pay.” She said. They of course still have expenses
but not like when they owned their home. I told her that Ken and I have thought
about her and her husband a lot lately and wondered if it was something we
should try.
“It’s not for everyone.” She said “But you won’t know if
it’s for you unless you try it.”
Well, that’s exactly what we’re doing. We bought a 31ft.
travel trailer with a slide and we started living in it last week. So far so
good, everything is at our finger tips; the fridge, stove, bathroom and most
importantly, a very comfy bed that I am having a hard time getting out of in
the morning.
We’re staying at a campground for now until we can get onto
the property at the end of July. I’m going to be taking care of my grandsons a
couple of days a week through July so I think they will have a blast here with
me as we are right on the lake.
It wasn’t the best time of our lives moving out of our house
because there was so much going on with us and so many people around us. Where
to begin? First, I turned sixty a week ago and there was a big party planned
which had to be cancelled because my dear friend that was hosting it had
surgery and to protect her privacy I won’t go into the details only to say it
all went terribly wrong and we weren’t sure for a while if she was even going
to survive. She is still recovering. Another good friend had a hip
replacement which meant she wouldn’t be able to attend and then there was me. I
too had surgery two weeks before we had to be out of our house. Do yourself a
favour; never have surgery in the middle of a move. I couldn’t do much and felt
extremely useless.
Two days before we moved out, our neighbour passed away. She
was forty six years old and battled cancer for almost two years. It was hard to
say good bye to her husband and he was sad to see us leave as well. “You two
are going to leave me as well, are you?” He asked as I burst into tears. They
were the best neighbours we ever had. We lived next door to them for fifteen
years. We watched their daughters grow up and become fine young women. He was
always there to lend a hand as was Ken. It was mutual.
Ken and I went to her funeral this past Saturday and the
funeral home was packed. We learned from all the tributes what an amazing
person she was. (Not that we didn’t know already.) No wonder there were so many
people there.
It’s not quite a week since we moved and I still can’t believe we got out in time. There was one problem after another but we finally got it done. My advice to anyone making a move, make sure you have lots of time to do it in. Make sure everyone knows when and where they have to be. I highly recommend Pack Rat Movers. They got the job done quickly and almost too efficiently.
Because we moved so quickly, we aren't sure where to find things. Most of our sentences start with I wonder where?
