Ken and I spent a Saturday afternoon of the August long weekend with Lindy and the boys at the Okanagan Science Centre in Vernon B.C. It was some place I had never been before but Ken had taken the boys last year and Lucas wanted to go again. At first I thought I would stay home and let them do their thing; at the last moment I decided what the heck I’ll tag along. I’m glad I did.
They have mini type seminars for the kids to educate them on various topics and that Saturday they were making straw rockets. I was fascinated with the whole event and I sat, listened and watched these kids build and understand how a rocket works. It was amazing how some of the other parents and grandparents took part as well. By watching their faces I could see that they were having as good a time as the children they had brought with them. At the end of the seminar, the kids took their rockets outside and tried to set them off toward the sky. It was fun to watch and some of them had some good success.
The picture of the toilet is self-explanatory. I tried so
hard to get one of the boys to take a drink but they weren’t having any of it.
We laughed and joked about it but nope, they weren’t going to cooperate. “It’s
for my blog.” I said but there was no way they would take a drink. If you look closely at the picture, you will see that a plumber installed the actual drinking fountain part at the base of the tank, just behind the bowl. Even when they saw that and we showed them how it works, still no dice.
The other picture is of Kale trying to teach Lindy how to
fly the space shuttle. I wouldn’t be surprised if one day he actually does.
We toured the centre on a very hot summer afternoon but I
bet it’s a great place to take your children or grandchildren on a cool wet
winter day when there is nothing else to do. Getting them away from those video
games is always a good idea as well.
We ended the afternoon with a late lunch at White Spot. I
was really glad I took that afternoon in with my family.
